Project Description
Healthier Communities
Through our community engagement activities, we strive to improve the living conditions of the less privileged prone to contracting illnesses. Most of these people do not have access to decent living conditions like proper waste disposal systems, good drinking water, drainage systems, or access to proper health care services. This exacerbates their vulnerabilities and increases their chances of being ill; and this impacts their economic activities and further disenfranchises them.
AHEAF therefore sees a need to help homes in such communities by providing them with knowledge that enables them to make informed choices for them and their families. By going door to door teaching about the key household practices consisting of simple methods that help protect women (pregnant and nursing mothers included), children, the whole family and the community at large from unwanted health issues, we believe that we are contributing to reducing poverty in Africa. Healthier families reduce out of pocket expenditure associated with healthcare, they are better fit to conduct their economic activities and learn while in school; and of course, they will live more productive lives that positively contribute to the economic growth of the continent.
AHEAF is currently embarking on house to house campaigns for health promotion and referral to health services in over-crowded slum ridden communities of Lagos State (Nigeria), which has a population of over 21 million people.
The following is the list of areas in Lagos impacted so far:
