Empowering Families

​​AHEAF believes that families and communities should be empowered to reach their fullest development potential. Poverty is as a result of weak or non-existent systems for distribution of national wealth and resources. Many poor and disadvantaged groups have no access to formal institutions and therefore cannot access support for income generating activities. Most families want their children to go to school; and they would like to take them to health facilities; but they do not have the means to do so.

Our support to income generating activities has two entry points:

  • Outreach activities conducted by our Empowerment Officers who go out looking for groups of persons who would like to partner with AHEAF and increasing their economic capabilities

  • During our health promotion activities, families are informed of our income generating activities and if they are interested, they can also become beneficiaries of the services

What are the criteria?

1. Persons interested in benefiting from the income generating activities must be economically active and they must form groups of no 10-30 persons. This is critical in that it firstly provides access for more people in need, but it also ensures peer support and counseling

2. Persons must already be involved in an economic activity or be interested in starting one

3. Persons must be willing to undergo financial counseling geared towards building a habit of saving and better financial management

4. Of course, they must be adults

What are our products?

1. Microcredit loans between N20,000 and N70,000 for micro businesses

2. Small business loans with amounts determined based on the nature of the business

3. Skill-based loans for those with new skill sets such as graduation from a skills acquisition center
